With the help of Public Affairs Specialist, Earth Nieves, joining us from the Social Security Administration, participants will learn the importance of Supplemental Security Income (SSI) for individuals with disabilities approaching adulthood, including when and how to apply, as well as the criteria involved in obtaining and maintaining benefits.

Preserving benefits, like SSI and Medicaid, concerns parents looking ahead to the working years of a young adult with disabilities. Using NJ ABLE, now available for NJ and PA families, an individual with a disability can have savings that will not jeopardize benefits. Cristine Chickadel, NJ ABLE Program Representative from the Division of Developmental Disabilities, provides information about this valuable strategy and how to get started.
