Harassment, Intimidation & Bullying

At Y.A.L.E School, we believe that a safe and civil school environment is necessary for students to achieve high academic standards, and to learn and grow as citizens.

As such, we are committed to ensuring each student’s right to be free from bullying, harassment or intimidation.

We recognize that many students who come to Y.A.L.E. School – those with social, emotional, neurological, behavioral, and learning disabilities – have experienced bullying in other settings.  At each of our campuses, we address bullying through a multi-pronged approach that is comprehensive, proactive, and immediate:

  • Comprehensively, through a school-wide culture of respect for diversity.
  • Proactively, before bullying occurs, through social skills instruction, peer mentoring, and other evidence-based strategies.
  • Immediately, when it occurs. Our staff are well-trained to identify and appropriately address all forms of harassment, intimidation, and bullying.

Evidence shows that our results-oriented approach works:

  • Our students report feeling more supported, safe, and free to express themselves.
  • Attendance rates at Y.A.L.E School are higher than those at public schools.
  • Students at Y.A.L.E. School show significant gains in academic achievement.

Every staff member at Y.A.L.E. School having contact with students completes professional development on harassment, intimidation, and bullying.
