Dear Y.A.L.E. School Community,

COVID-19 TRAVEL POLICY

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (“CDC”) continue to warn that travel during the COVID-19 pandemic may increase an individual’s risk of contracting the virus. The Y.A.L.E. School strongly discourages employees and students from all non-essential travel. The CDC continues to recommend delaying travel until you are fully vaccinated. The CDC recommends schools continue to implement all current COVID-19 prevention strategies for the 2020-2021 school year, including adherence to travel policies so that schools can continue to provide in-person instruction safely.

REPORTING

For the duration of the COVID-19 pandemic, and until such time as The Y.A.L.E. School amends or rescinds this Policy in writing, all unvaccinated employees and students who travel to any state other than essential travel in the immediate region, to include New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, and Delaware, or any international destination must notify school administration in writing of the destination of such travel, all modes of transportation used, and the date of return or expected return to Pennsylvania. As set forth below, mandatory quarantine requirements will be enforced for anyone traveling to any destination outside of the immediate region or any international destination. Notwithstanding an individual’s COVID-19 testing status, The Y.A.L.E. School reserve the right, in the sole discretion of its administration, to require any employee or student to refrain from coming onto the premises for a period of 7 to 10 days, depending upon circumstances, following the individual’s return from travel from any destination outside the immediate region or any international destination. (See Mandatory Quarantine periods below).

MANDATORY QUARANTINE

The CDC instructs all unvaccinated travelers and residents returning from any U.S. state or international travel to be tested 3-5 days after return from travel and quarantine a full 7 days even if test results are negative, or quarantine for a full 10 days if untested. Accordingly, any student or employee not fully vaccinated who travels will be prohibited from entering school premises for a period of 7 days even if he or she has a negative test result upon his or her return, or 10 days if no test was obtained.

The quarantine mandate will be required for all employees or students who are not fully vaccinated and those who have been previously infected with Covid-19. The CDC recognizes that fully vaccinated travelers are less likely to get and spread Covid-19. Fully vaccinated travelers should still follow CDC recommendations for traveling safely including wear a mask over your nose and mouth, and stay 6 feet from others and avoid crowds. Previously infected persons and individuals who have received the vaccine can also still be infected with COVID-19, including its various strains, sometimes without symptoms, and both recently infected and

vaccinated persons can still transmit the virus to others. Thus, fully vaccinated staff and students who return from travel should self-monitor for COVID-19 symptoms; isolate and get tested if you develop symptoms. For employees, leave options can be discussed with a building supervisor.

HOUSEHOLD MEMBERS

Employees and students who do not travel themselves, but whose household members or others with whom they have close contact who engage in travel implicating mandatory quarantine under this policy, shall report to administration for instruction on whether it will be necessary for them to refrain from coming onto the school premises. This will be determined on a case-by-case basis. In making determinations, administration will consider all relevant circumstances, including the nature of the travel, the extent to which the household member is isolating from others, and the ability of the employee or student to refrain from engaging in close contact with the household member.

EMPLOYEE LEAVE ACCOMMODATION DURING MANDATORY QUARANTINE

Employees who are required to quarantine for 7 or 10 days due to travel may be able to use their accrued, paid leave, under certain circumstances. Employees who have exhausted their paid leave may be required to use unpaid leave. Other options may be available, and employees are encouraged to contact their supervisor to determine the best alternatives. Employees who knowingly travel outside the immediate region or internationally, for non-essential reasons, may not be granted leave to quarantine upon their return. Suspected abuse of this policy will be subject to discipline, up-to-and including termination.

STUDENT LEAVE DURING MANDATORY QUARANTINE

Students who are required to quarantine for 7 or 10 days due to travel will be accommodated, to the extent practicable, with make-up instruction and/or remote instruction, and where applicable, remote services.

ENFORCEMENT

Any employee who is found to have violated this policy, or who is found to have provided false or misleading information that would tend to interfere with the enforcement of this policy, will be subject to discipline, up-to-and including termination. Any student (acting on his or her own behalf, or through a parent or caregiver) who is found to have violated this policy, or who is found to have provided false or misleading information that would tend to interfere with the enforcement of this policy may be subject to discipline.

REPORTING AND ANTI-RETALIATION

Any employee who witnesses or becomes aware of any employee or other individual’s violation of or failure to adhere to the requirements of this policy, must report such violations to his or her direct supervisor or the School Principal immediately. An employee who fails to report a violation of this policy may be subject to discipline, up-to-and including termination of employment.

The Y.A.L.E. School prohibits any form of discipline, reprisal, intimidation, or retaliation for reporting a violation of this policy or any other health and safety concern.
